THE PERCEPTION OF STRENGTHS & NEEDS PROCESS

A 360 Degree Feedback Questionnaire to
Increase Productivity through Development and Growth

The process will: a) Deliver multiple perspectives; b) Maintain highest degree of candor by supporting anonymity; c) Identify productive and unproductive behaviors; d) Create a valid process for assessing individual's performance; e) Help the individual recognize needs and develop strengths; f) Improve communication and focus employee and managerial efforts; g) Engineer a specific action plan to foster development and growth in the individual. Provide a formal follow up mechanism.

  • Step One: Clarifying Expectations - A Focus group to discuss the PSN process will clarify the scope of the project, obtain input from the participants, and define specific dimensions that comprise the PSN questionnaire. The individual phases of the project, the feedback process and the implementation of the results are explained. Particular attention is given to how information will be used and who will have access to it.
  • Step Two: Selection & Administration - Participants select peers and subordinates who will participate with the supervising manager in responding to the PSN questionnaire. A minimum of 5 peers and 5 subordinates should be selected. Participants fill the "Birkman Method" questionnaire. All completed questionnaires are returned to the consultant for scoring and tabulation.
  • Step Three: Explanation of the Report & Development of an Action Plan - The data from the PSN Questionnaire is compiled in a report and reviewed by the participants with the help of the consultant. Areas of perceived strengths and needs are discussed. Comparisons are made between the feedback results and the Birkman Method results. A specific and formal development plan is agreed upon with the input of the participant and recommendations from the supervising manager.
  • Step Four: Implementation & Follow up - The candidate and the supervising manager agree on a mechanism for ensuring that the development plan is implemented as well as monitoring it's effectiveness. At specific target dates (usually upon completion of the development plan or within 18 months) a new PSN should be obtained for follow up and feedback.
